Media Frenzy was created as a portfolio for my course New Media for Tech Comm; however, it is just as importantly a place for me to showcase different forms of new media that I come across.
As I am still relatively new to the technology world in general, this site is strictly for beginners and will document anything and everything I come across even remotely technology related. My intense interest in immersing myself in computer-related technology especially has spurred me on to tackle this course, and my thirst is multiplying as my knowledge of this world expands.
Regardless of my limited technology skills, the focus will remain centered on new media, which is put simply: digital media. In addition, one must consider that all media considered old now was in fact new when it was first developed, so I will also celebrate the forms of old media that have expanded into or inspired new media. In order to celebrate the new, we must honor the old.
Long story short, the purpose of this blog is to educate those who know little about new media and desire a basic understanding of its components and characteristics in order to open up new doors. If I manage to do this right, then maybe you’ll learn about the varied and ever-changing world of new media right along with me, albeit with a little patience.
Welcome to Media Frenzy and I hope you enjoy your stay.

Hi, there! Allow me to start by saying, great work! Your blog is truly absorbing. The blog’s title, Media Frenzy, definitely serves the overall purpose you describe in your welcome post. The blog’s theme, on the other hand, may be a bit tame. “Frenzy” conjures up ideas of bright colors and striking visuals. Given the topic, new media, a frenzied aesthetic look can be, in itself, a demonstration. Although, maybe your intention was to bring some calm to the frenzy; if so, it’s quite effectual.
Your definition of new media was thorough and clear; use of quotes helped support and further explain your definition. I definitely got that new media is ‘digital’ media. The final paragraph concerning “dangers in creativity,” on the definition post, left me in suspense. Hopefully, you will write on this topic in a later post.
I understand the purpose of Media Frenzy to be an examination and exploration of new media along with all things technology. Your passion for the topic pulses from each page and is truly endearing. That is what I like most about the blog – its explorative tone and conversational delivery. You have an unpredictable language style. Several times I found myself thinking, “That’s a cool way to say that.” Your post “Janet Murray’s Supernatural World” gives clinical treatment to the topic without it becoming dry or overly heady. That’s not easy to do, particularly when talking about the function and effects of ‘gidgets and gadgets.’ You have a good eye for art, made evident by the images selected. I look forward to seeing more visual representations of the subjects on your blog, particularly in the form of in-prose images and videos. As well, I’m very interested to see what you will write next on the topic of new media.

1. This blog specifically connects with our readings based on one simple fact: it states its use to its audience. The audience is beginners learning to blog. Its relationship with society is defined in the second paragraph of this post alone! Right from the get-go, the “sender” is giving a “message” by the “blog” post to the “beginner”. (Chalkley, 10).
2. This blog absolutely nails defining new media in that it encompasses not only the visual rhetorical side of it, which appeals to the end reader, but it also utilizes SEO in many posts (by way of using “tags” as reference points to optimize for search engines). It’s quite thorough in this task, as you can tell by this post alone. Furthermore, the use of embedded video, formatted posts, and posts specifically about technology lend to the credibility of this blog as a New Media Portfolio.
3. This blog makes creative use of possibilities of the medium by its tablature design on the home page. Instead of being symmetrical, which I usually find to be eye-catching, it utilizes a tabular system which adjusts the height of the “tabs” to the amount of content they contain for their summaries. This shows the reader which posts are heftier as far as text content, and which ones are heavier as far as media content. It may be useful to use this visual cue within the blog to create more text for posts that utilize more SEO and (potentially) advertising in order to draw readers to those posts specifically.
